Restitutions Large
The New York Times recounts a fairy-tale court decision in which Barbara Principe, an unassuming German immigrant residing in New Jersey, discovers in degrees that she is the heiress in part to over $350 million in restitution funds from real estate her family had owned before WWII. Of course, the née Wertheims were no angels -- they had to play ball for about a decade with the German government before their property was seized, as Dialog International investigates. I always get confused when this much money is involved. (Fun fact: Hitler's final bunker was among the properties in the case.)
