Runnin' Guns

German firms helping Iran go ballistic

This is all Illicit as hell, and please forgive my whorish tendency to plug the books I've recently read. But we should probably get our collective heads out of the sand about illegal trade. Everyone who's been to Eastern Asia has been offered scammed DVDs, and that's where the rabbit hole starts.

Arms dealing is old news; everyone does it. At least it's not the freakin' German government -- we think. It's like owning one of those overpriced restaurants at the airport (arms) and also being able to charge people one Euro to go to the bathroom (munitions). No country that is already in military production -- i.e. the G8 -- can resist the revenue, because it's a lot. Profit isn't mentioned in the article, but Illicit puts the international arms trade in the hundreds of billions, worldwide. Do we really think, legal or illegal, this isn't going on?

Hell, Germany's known for its exports. But perhaps this is bad because it's one of the things America does prominently?
