Eternal Vigilance

Cat "saves" abandoned newborn's life

I've got lots of problems with this story. Why would someone leave a baby on the doorstep of a house without ringing the bell? Too late in the evening to disturb the occupants? And, assuming they did indeed ring the bell, did it take a cat to make them actually come to their door? Why didn't the baby's crying do it for them? Man, if this baby wasn't crying after being alone on a doorstep for hours, I'll take him.

Whatever the truth is behind this enigmatic wire dispatch, I'm not about to give this cat the crown of righteousness. It's like calling me a hero for using the toilet in the morning. The transition from American to German culture has been eye-opening, but sorry, I'm not willing to worship pets yet.

They want to crown this one, too, and all it did was get lost.
