Just Accept It - Nazis Are Funny
At last, a little shit is happening. I don't want to sound like a blood beast, but this World Cup is going to be pretty tedious if there isn't more real violence soon. The Poles caused a kerfuffle in Dortmund yesterday - a good start. It seems the English, their ranks weakened by the well-organised police and their effectiveness in keeping convicts out of the country, are going in for hooliganism by comedy. Many England fans are performing Nazi salutes at the former parade grounds of Nuremburg, and Nazi helmets with St. George's crosses on them are being sold.
Apparently some English people in Nuremburg are making fun of Germany for its Nazi past. The British ambassador, Sir Peter Torry, has put the figure at 0.01 percent, and urges the 69,930 English people hanging around the city to put pressure on these 70 uncouth, bad-mannered people to have more respect for their hosts and join them in good-natured celebration of the spirit of world football. Surely this must be possible. It wouldn't take half an hour to round up this handful of ruffians and take them to Pizza Hut or something, where songs like "10 German Bombers" wouldn't bother the other English fans.
Gerhard Hauptmannl, the president of the Nuremburg police, suggests that the sense of humour of the British on the subject of Nazism differs somewhat to that of the people of Nuremburg. I think he might have nailed it on the head there.
