German economy benefits from World Cup

Gfk said its forward-looking consumer climate indicator rose to 7.8 points for July, a five-year high... Gfk added that World Cup euphoria and a willingness to spend may not translate into actual purchases.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've heard all this before. Any upturn in the economy, which we should immediately and probably incorrectly attribute to the World Cup, is a phenomenon that exists for no reason and won't last.

I'm going to put this out there -- maybe it increased because of the amount of increased consumption that is going on now that we have all our new guests in the nation, both by the guests and infecting the populace at large. That could be part of it. Just sayin'.
