Guess Who's Coming To Germany?

Your favorite

He seriously is, though. No one has made it easier for one to know absolutely nothing about politics, yet sound so passionate -- so convicted! He's helped more armchair political theorists than... well, I'm not going to say the other guy's name.

The wire report on the pending visit mostly centers on Merkel, and her uncertain position as a Bush toady. Uncertain in the sense that she isn't really pandering to him as much as American papers would suggest, except on the issue of Iran. (We are worried about Ahmadinejad, who is years away from a threat and raving incoherently, while North Korea vies for our attention by arming missles on a Hawaiian vector. Can we have an analog to World War II, please?)

So Thursday there will be some ally talk, and smokescreens. Will Merkel once again insist that Guantanamo be shut down? Will Bush explain that he wants that more than anything, but except, like, no? Now that they agree about Iran, can he finally bring up flag burning?

I'll be watching this thing, but only for the demonstrators.

According to the White House, Bush's visit to Germany "will underscore our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity and to strengthening the trans-Atlantic partnership."
