Klinsmann's Transatlantic Reach

transatlantic-soccer-bridge.jpg

JK is thinking about becoming US national soccer coach. More power to him.

In the latest documentary blockbuster, “Germany: a Midsummer Dream,” Klinsmann is seen closing his porch door in Huntington Beach, a few months after the World Cup. What a Cup and summer it was - unforgettable!

Klinsmann was criticized from the beginning, of wanting to change too many things with the German style of soccer, of not living in Germany, trying to get a field hockey (Germany won the World Cup) coach to bring fresh ideas and an American fitness trainer. The critics are dead. Germany plays more exciting ball than ever, more offensive and without the age old 1:0 safe result scores. The team awakened a passionate spirit, and thanks to the sun god, the entire Cup was blessed with great weather.

Now the fall is still blessing us with 25 degress and sunshine, thanks to global warming, I think. There still is a long journey of change in this country and getting it up to global speed, but we’ll get there, even without a slow-small-step-merkel-reform-coalition. In the soccer, umm, football documentary, there is one scene where Merkel visits the team in their hotel and Lehmann, the national team’s goalie, asks the current Chancellor, why he should move back to Germany from England, Angela responds,

Well, you can get 1.800 Euros a month, if you take two months parental leave.

What?? Yeah, that’ll convince him, very inspiring and humorous. Don’t ask what Lehmann makes a day and why more Germans are leaving the country than coming back. In the meantime, let’s hope Klinsmann can teach Americans the game everyone else on the planet is playing and living, might be good for future diplomatic efforts, after Bush is out to lunch. Go Barack. Btw, Klinsmann has been supporting the Transatlantic Soccer Bridge since 2000. Check out the soccer bridge video. JK even has a MySpace page!
