Go West, Young Love Parade

Spending most of the year so far homeless after failing to get approval from the city of Berlin, the venerated monster of dance parties -- el Love Parade -- has found a new home in the Ruhr city of Essen on the far western side of Germany, reports Tagesspiegel. (The city's name, by the way, means "to eat" or "eating" in German. A lot of non-Germans find that hilarious, but then they get used to it and stop chuckling. Everything has to have a name, right?) The Berlin-centric will have to settle this year for the Berlin Dance Parade or B-Parade, which has ambitions to itch that crazy urge for raving madness that (mostly) all Europeans and American backpackers seem to get in the summer when there is beer and sun involved. And all things known as love.

Feeling nostalgic for those halcyon days? Relive the Berlin trance heyday with this 27-minute classic video from 1993, complete with carefree raving post-Wall happiness and groovy interviews with trance forefathers Dr. Motte and Paul Van Dyke, among others.
