Pushing Green Technology

Hamburg's Skysail turns wind into profit

Germany sells the most climate friendly technology worldwide, thanks to the pioneering EEG law of the Schröder/Fischer government - now adopted by 47 other nations. It's said that the renewable will overtake the automobile industry in the next decade. And sure enough, the United States is in second position and already a strong competitor.

Now that Al Gore put climate change and peace on the radar of more Americans, we'll see investments into green technology and direly needed consumer awareness. Because I am still seeing hot tubs doing all nighters, lights bulbs circa 1951, shady public transport or gas guzzlers ruling urbanite life in New York or San Francisco; the first step towards change is awareness.

Transcontinental investments have also made the round recently. Minneapolis based Despatch Industries is setting up shop in Berlin's technology park Adlershof. German energy behemoth Eon is investing € 3,5 billion into US wind energy in New York and Texas after having snatched Airtricity's American assets.

The popular vote president Gore will show up in Berlin on October 23 at the 2nd German Climate Congress, sponsored by EnBw, “The Economics of Climate Change”. He'll be cashing in € 180,000 for the day.
