Squash Rackets as WMD
Sloppy written visas forms can get you jailed these days! German squash champ Valeria Vinnikova saw a correctional facility from the inside in New Hampshire. It's "live free or die" in NH. She lucked out and got released two weeks later. Valeria might return because of her fiance, even though she bucks the trend of declining travel to the States.
The difference between those people and Valeria is that Valeria had advocates. And most immigrants being held in jail do not have advocates, do not have access to advocate, don't realize they even can.

Wow, thanks for this. I live in Portland and was not even aware of the story, nor did I know that there were other women imprisoned here. I will definitely seek out the attorney and try to get some broader coverage of this. How stupid can the Homeland Security bureaucrats be??

I am not too surprised. It's the bureaucrat's fear of being the one who let in the next terrorist. Yet even common sense comes a long way these days. The only coverage is on Vermont Public Radio and Channel 5 (clip above) from Burlington, VT. At least my alma matter town is holding up the flag ;)
